There's been a little bit of time between the last time I was here... and now.

Hey there, welcome to my brand new blog about my writing.

I have been a blogger since 2009 on Blogspot, Blogger, Adult Friend Finders (that's a sex education blog there), on FB (1 page is for politics, 1 is for writing science fiction).

I'm starting this blog to address my non-fiction writing.

Starting in 1993, I started living a life where I would go to Mexico for months at a time, and then come back to the states to work and save up more money to afford my next trip. I did this with my ex, but we really thought we were going to be getting on his cousin's boat about a year from our first Mexico trip.

His cousin never took off like he was saying he would to sail the South Pacific, and our next decision ended up being such a great one; we decided we would buy a little boat and we would sail down Baja California, Mexico, and then make decisions from there.

Trying to keep our options open while remaining in charge of our own lives, and not living the usual one is the decision I'm referring to. So many time, we would be talking to our friends in California or while traveling and bumping into people and we would hear, "I would love to do what you both are doing." But we had no blueprint to follow, and no one to advise us on how to go about what we were attempting to do.

And that's how you go about doing something like that; you just do it. Now I was the person who looked at our finances to decide what we could and couldn't do, and I'm not saying that you can just walk out of your life without at least a little planning, but yeah, that's what we did. I cashed in some stock that I had in the company I had just quit working for (I worked for that now defunct Savings and Loan on and off for well over 10 years), and for the first year, that's what we lived on. I had a paid off vehicle (a 1977 convertible Volkswagen bug) and so did he (a Toyota small truck). We threw a super cheap 1977 Dolphin camper on the back of the truck and with a couple of tents, lived in the Baja desert for months at a time. My ex is a surfer, so we did learn about the surfing communities up and down the peninsula who formed and then broke up from October to April or May of each year.

Let's just say, we had a blast, until we were no longer having a blast, and then we chose to go in different directions. It was hard, it was fun, it was different, and it was shitty at times, but it was like a different life that I will always look back on fondly. We raised kids during those 19 years together, and we got into some scrapes, had a lot of laughs, and then decided we were done.

I hope that some of you will follow along while I talk about this life that we built.

I don't regret a minute of it.

Signed,

Your Traveling Fool of a Friend (now living a conventional life)

  1. Given my very recent ban as spunkycumfun, along with three others, I've just joined this site. However, I'm struggling a bit to get my head around it.
